Posted - Jul 17 2008 : 06:16:35 AM Oh my gosh! This is an amazing book. I have been trying to get Baby out more often. We went to a park the other day and Antelope live there! She got to get within about 20 yards of real antelope (Mother and baby) before they took off. She loves being outside!

Posted - Aug 13 2008 : 06:36:44 AM It is a gorgeous book, and below all of the visual beauty, there are wonderful stories and lots of practical info.
Hey, JoAnn - did you ever find a copy of Go Tell it on the Mountain by Jackie Johnson Maughan? It's a neat anthology of stories by fire lookouts. Here's a link to it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Tell-Mountain-Jackie-Johnson-Maughan/dp/0811707385/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1218634282&sr=1-1

Posted - Jul 17 2008 : 4:58:40 PM Absolutely great book! I bought the mixin's to do up some of the quinoa camp chow. Can't wait to try it out. DH refused to eat the sheep's sorrel I kept offering him on one of our recent walks. I just love to graze, and now I have some recipes to mix instead of eating on the go. Miner's lettuce and damsel rocket salad...so pretty! Was it chickweed she listed as tasting like fresh corn, and gave a pesto recipe for? Anyway, the ultimate revenge on something I've been pulling and putting to the compost...hee he he, it only thinks it's a weed! |

Posted - Jul 17 2008 : 4:01:36 PM I preordered the book months ago. I love it!! I love hearing about MJ's adventures being a backcountry ranger and manning the fire tower. Our museum has a firetower that they moved off a nearby mountain. I volunteered there when I could do the firetower not sit at the desk and collect money. Now I read they have moved another fire tower of another mountain and it's going to be erected on the fairgrounds. I'm looking into volunteering there during the fair. I brought that Lookout Cookbook featured in the book to Maryjane's Farmer Fair a couple years ago to have her sign it. She signed it and the name of the firetower she was at. JoAnn

Posted - Jul 17 2008 : 3:49:15 PM Yup. I got it straight away. And am really enjoying it. It's given me some great ideas. Including plans for a picnic with the Mr. in my '66 Chevy 4X4 <wink>. I got a kick out of the picture of MaryJane taking off on one of her 10 day hitches with a large pack on her back. Looks extactly like my Kelty Tioga pack I've had since the '70's.
