We keep getting glimpses of sunshine, but it's still pretty darn cold here. Have tried fishing a time or two, but no luck. I can't wait for warm weather when we can spend our days on the river again (the White River, mostly). It's like HEAVEN. We're even thinking of scrounging up enough cash to buy our own boat so that we can drift and fish and laze our summer weekends away like Tom & Huck. Ahhh....

Is anybody else a lovesick river rat?

Whoa Jo!!! That's awesome. What kind of surgery do you do? I would love to hear more about it.

I'm on a new surgical team trip to Hissar near Punjab. I worked on a book in the early 80's on Kipling. He worked for a newspaper called the Civil and Military Gazette in his younger years. In my early 20's I assisted a researcher on his book about Kipling. The memories of all those places I read about!

I'll fly into Delhi and then on to Hissar. I plan on travelling on to Dharamsala to visit the home of the Dali Lama. Hope I'm spelling all this correctly. My husband plans to meet me at the end so we can travel a little bit. I think it's one of those trips of a lifetime thing. I'm kind of slowing down on international travel. I really love being home in Alaska..........

Weird summer here, too, Jo. Cooler & rainier than any mid-south July I can remember. The garden & orchard seem to love it.

India?! How exciting. What part? I dream of traveling to Kerala / southern India someday.

I have a great tube! I had to replace my waders, me feet were leaking. It is very cold here this summer so I'm loading up to stay warm when I fish. Such a weird summer. I might be going to India in January with a surgical team. I might get warm then!

What a great idea Traci! I had never thought of those! I am going to have to go to our neared Tractor Supply store to see how much those will cost! We have a little lake not to far from where we live and I think that would be tons of fun for us grown ups. I need to find something for Baby so she can have fun on the water too. She has a floaty thing that goes across her chest and has arm holes but it seems to tip her more often than not!

Jen, we used to go to farm and tractor supply stores and sometimes even tire stores. But, the big, cushy rubber tubes come from the innertubes of tractor tires so I would say start there. Oh I love tubing, let us know how it goes! Traci

Haven't yet, Traci, but we found the PERFECT creek for tubes! Even with the little ones! Where's the easiest/best place to buy suitable tubes? I figure we need something in between cheap flimsy vinyl pool tubes and big, heavy canvas-y things...

YES!!!!! Oh how I love those lazy days on the river! Fish, swim, eat a picnic, take a nap and repeat! There's nothing like it. Do you and your fam do any tubing? I love floating down the river in a big tube letting the river guide you. What fun!
