MaryJane got a phone call from Cecil Andrus HIMSELF the other day -- he's the former 4-term Idaho governor who, along with former senator Frank Church, designated wilderness areas all over the West & Alaska. Since 2005, Andrus gives out two awards every year to Westerners, one rural & one urban, and MJ is the RURAL recipient for 2008!

Congratulations, MJ!!!

Here's more info about the award:
"With the annual Cecil D. Andrus Leadership Awards for Sustainability and Conservation, Sustainable Northwest recognizes leading examples of successful entrepreneurship in pursuit of sustainability in the American Northwest.

Andrus Leadership Awards are awarded to individuals, businesses, non-profit organizations, or collaborative, community-based efforts that exemplify leadership in pursuit of sustainability – with a demonstrated commitment to conservation of the environment, service to the community, adaptability and innovation, and to leading others on a similar sustainable path."

It makes me proud to be an oregonian by birth and history! Sustainable northwest is amazing and who could represent it better than Mary Jane. It must have been an amazing event, I'm so glad I've lived in the age beyond "Silent Spring" and people that care once again about what we eat and how we live and eat on this planet....... jo
