by Barbara Berst Adams just came in the mail! I had ordered it a while ago from Amazon.com and it was finally released. I'm excited to read it - the subtitle is, "Hosting Community and Tourists on Your Farm," which is something that someday I would like to do. Do any of you have this book yet? If so - whaddya' think of it?

OH - and there is a bunch of information about MJF in it, too - especially her B&B...

XOXO, Libbie

"Farmgirl Sister #10," and proud of it!!!

That is great Sandra! That is something I would like to do when I get land. Right now I just have a large city lot with our rental house, so I am going to put in a big garden. I think the biggest thing I am going to do this summer is maybe have an Honor System veg stand in my front yard. I figure I can pick in the morning, and anything that isn't sold by dark can get canned that night. That way I can make some money (hopefully) and still preserve some food. I might only do it on days when I am home though, so I can make sure the kids on summer vacation don't start robbing me blind.

That is quite an inspiration, Sandra! How cool! I'm not sure about Arkansas law, but we have dreams of hosting events here at the farm, especially once our orchard starts producing. Fingers are crossed for 1st fruit this year...

I realize this is an old topic but I've been involved in agri-tourism for close to 14 years and have made $500 in one morning hosting several classes of elementary children. When I hosted the Appalachian Heritage Festival, we had 1,000 the first year.
Ag-tourism is a great way to make money, especially when there's a limited or no liability clause in your state. I know NC and VA both have one.

This is a new one to me, Libbie! Will have to go look it up. Let us know how you like it. I have been so starved for just a good STORY lately that I picked up a book my aunt gave me over a year ago. It's called Midnight Cactus by Bella Pollen. So far (almost 2 chapters) pretty good - but I'm a tough reader, so I hope it keeps me hooked!
