Last summer, I was pulling clothes off the line about dusk at our cabin in Montana when I heard this low "moaning" - I don't know how else to describe it, but it was pretty loud and sounded like if you said "Huh", in a low tone and drug it out for awhile. Our clothesline is on the edge of a coulee, so I expected to see something, what, I don't know, emerge from the top of the coulee any minute. I grabbed the rest of the clothes and ran back up onto the porch of the cabin. I heard it a couple of more times and it was definately coming from the coulee. Didn't sound like a deer, antelope, or elk. Any ideas?

Not sure what that would have been but it did send a chill down my spine? I asked Jim and he said possibly a bear or a moose. Any of those nearby? JoAnn

I'm not sure about moose - I know they are a little farther south of us. But the neighbor did have bear scat out by his outhouse one day. I'm prepared for next trip over now though - I used to travel with two dauchunds (I can never spell that word), but when my old man (dog!) died, I got a Border Collie and he'll by making all trips down to the clothesline with me from now on. He'll probably HERD all the wild critters!!

Mikesgirl glad that link helped. Now you need to have a camera ready for some cool pics. Be carful tho.

Mountain Girl , its a really interesting site http://www.survivaltopics.com/, plus an active forum, it would be nice to get more women on there. I think I'm the only grandma in the group. LOL.

LindaEllen, Interesting site thanks. I could be the second grandma in the group if only my kids would cooperate: ) Been doing some of the stuff for years. Another fun magazine that one of our sons hooked us up with is Backwoodsman Magazine. JoAnn

My guess is moose, too, Sherri (if it wasn't a free range cow). We had moose right around our house when we lived near Missoula in '97.
