Just got back from a road trip to Mn from northeastern WA to celebrate my mom's 90th birthday. Jim chose not to come so he stayed home and took care of the dog and cats.I decided to make it more interesting I'd drive and spend two days in Glacier National Park. I was going to spend the bucks and stay at the beautiful lodge but my frugal side took over: ) I opted to stay at a mom and pop motel a short distance from the lodge. This way I could hang out in the lobby and grounds of the lodge and return to the motel to sleep. It was wonderful! I sat in the comfy couch by the window looking a beautiful mountains or by the cozy fireplace. Was going to go on the Red Bus Tour in the vintage restored buses but decided to go with the Native America tour. Very interesting and I got ad added bonus. I was the last one to be let off when the bus driver got a call that he needed to pick up a couple by the Canadian border. He would have to go all the way back to East Glacier to drop me off and then backtrack up to the border so he asked if I would mind going with him. I said let's go. We picked up a middle aged couple from England who were traveling across Canada and the United States without a car. They would take buses, trains or rent a car. They could get to the border but they had no "ride" from there so they contacted the tour company and made arrangements to be pick up. We had quite a nice chat on the way back. JoAnn

Cool! Sounds like a great trip. I've never been to Glacier.

Did you take any pictures? (hint, hint)

I haven't embraced digital pictures yet or at least posting them. I also find that "normal" picture taking cannot capture the beauty of the region and sometimes feel people are so taken up in taking the picture they don't really "see" the beauty of what they are taking. I did witness a odd scenerio. We stopped and walked to a outcropping of rocks overlooking a beautiful lake which had had a lodge built which was then removed and nothing was left. In the background was the mountain that inspired the "logo" for Paramount pictures (it was partly shrouded by clouds. One man didn't get off and walked to the overlook with us. On our return one of the other touriest made some comment like "you didn't go". His comment was with the conditions who couldn't get a good picture". JoAnn

Sounds like a wonderful trip.

I can't imagine - not getting out to take a look because you couldn't get a good picture? Oh, my.

I looked at my picture that I took where the guy didn't get off because he wouldn't be able to take a good picture--it was beautiful. JoANn

Wow JoAnn! It sounds like you had a spectacular trip!! I can't believe that idjit didn't get off the bus! Oh well! His loss I guess! Silly people need to look away from their cameras and just BE in the moment, ya know? The picture is to remind you of the place, not to be the reason to go!!
