Last year my husband got a nice Buck opening day. My first time helping skin and butcher. I kept the hide and scrapped it but it just got really stiff. What do i need to do to keep this years and not have it stiff and hard as a rock?

Did you have it processed or did it just stay as raw hide?

If you want your hide to stay soft and supple you would need to have it processed. I know that when my dad and I shot a deer we scrapped the hide and then but borax and salt on it (really heavy) until we took it to the processor. However I found this great website that tells you how to process your own!:

Alee, it stayed raw. Thanks for the link. I'd rather do it myself if I can.
